The many areas of fashion seem to be providing ample material for documentary makers right now. From modelling (The modelling agency - Channel four), retail ('Riches to rags' - also Channel Four) and fashion bible - I mean magazine production ('The September Issue'), it seems fashion documentaries are, ahem, fashionable!
So the latest documentary doing the rounds is the documentary currently showing at the Tribeca film festival about the relationship between Yves Saint Laurent (who died in 2008) and his partner Pierre Berge. L'Amour Fou - the crazy love - is set to be released in America on Friday this week and is hugely anticipated.
The docu details the designers struggle with depression and Bergé's fight to keep the designer focused. But it also reveals a great deal of the grief his partner suffered following the designers death in 2008 from cancer.
Hopefully the film will make it over here as I would be very interested in seeing it. But in the meantime, we have the docu/films made about Valentino, Chanel, Anna Wintour and other parts of the industry.
